The Greater Aiken area is rich in health care facilities and services. The region is home to nine hospitals and more than 25,000 medical professionals providing some of the best healthcare services in the nation.
For example, Aiken’s residents have access to Aiken Regional Medical Centers (ARMC), which the Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence has ranked as South Carolina’s top hospital for treating heart attacks, heart failure and pneumonia. Healthinsight, a private, nonprofit organization based in Utah, ranks ARMC among the nation’s top hospitals for treating the above-mentioned diseases.
It’s easy to see why ARMC is rated so highly. With more than 120 on-staff physicians covering 36 specialties, the 230-bed hospital is well equipped to care for your family’s health needs. A new cardiovascular floor, featuring 34 all- private rooms, opened in 2003, and the 15,000-square-foot Cancer Care Institute of Carolina, offering radiation and chemotherapy treatment and support services in one location, opened in 2004. A new emergency room and a consolidated Intensive Care Unit opened in 2005.
ARMC’s vast array of services ranges from a 24-hour emergency department to cardiopulmonary and respiratory services, Computerized Tomography Scanning to same-day outpatient surgery, dialysis treatments to pain management, and much more. A sleep disorders center, women’s center, diabetes and nutrition center, a behavioral health sciences center, plus the Cardiovascular Institute of Carolina and the Cancer Care Institute of Carolina, are among ARMC’s top-notch facilities.
Also serving the area is the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) system, a teaching- and research-based hospital, which is located a short distance away in Augusta, Georgia. The MCG Medical Center complex forms the core of the MCG system’s facilities. The medical center includes a 483-bed adult hospital, an ambulatory care center with more than 80 outpatient clinics in one convenient location, a specialized care center housing a regional trauma center serving 13 counties, and a 149-bed children’s hospital. The MCG system also includes more than 90 satellite clinics.
Home health care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, sports medicine, behavioral health services and exercise programs are but a few of Aiken’s offerings to help keep you and your family in good health.
